Honda couldn't afford for customers to be taking wheels apart whenever they felt like it, so the bolts you're talking about are security bolts. There isn't a tool available to remove them, you'd have to make one yourself. Not only that, but they have a thread locking compound applied at assembly.

That's not to say it can't be done. You would need to source replacement nuts and bolts though.

Have a chat with Ian Wright at Classic Race Replicas, he's done a few.

Hi . I had the same problem . I don't think the studs can be opened . I used a small rotary wire brush followed by lots of Loctite 7503 followed by wire brush followed by Loctite....... many weeks later the wheels are reasonably clean (6/10) and seem to improve the more I repeat the action . Best of luck from Scramjet ..

A Dremal or similar, and a bit of patience is probably the best bet if all you want are clean bolts. If you're looking at a wheel conversion, then obviously the wheel needs to come apart.

Once you've got them clean, try a touch of laquer to keep them that way.

Since you mention studs, I trust you are talking about the Honda six spoke Astralites whihc are bolted together, and not the five (or even three) spoke Comstars that are fitted to other Hondas and are studded.

I have a VF1000R rear wheel and a couple of NS wheels, and when I get the time, I will attempt the conversion, but owing to family commitments and some space issues it will more likley be nearer the end of the year. The key required to undo them is not available (as mentioned above) but I will be making two of them from scratch, and the wheels will be soaked in a diesel / petrol mix for a month or two beforehand just to loosen things up a bit.

hello again andy here, i did mean the astralites wheels studs/fasteners. so you've got a vf1000r wheel have you! i thought about doing that conversion untill i realised i,d have more chance of shitting in the queens handbag than find a decent one.
